Artist: Bill Herzfeld
After years working in the corporate world, Bill Herzfeld decided it was time for a change. His art has now become his arena for artistic and personal growth. As a self-taught artist, Bill constantly explores, experiments, and takes risks. Bill scours flea markets for found objects and industrial artifacts that he can recycle, repurpose and reassemble to create his distinct, one-of-kind art objects. Bill’s creativity and sense of humor and fun are exhibited in his subjects: insects, animals, plants, and figures contain industrial light bulbs, radio vacuum tubes, springs and coils, hammered copper, and blacksmith steel. If asked to describe his art, Bill responds that he makes “stuff out of stuff” and what he calls “uncommon art.” He likes his art to be whimsical and playful, “this is the fun part, why be normal?”
Several years ago, Bill was filmed making one of his giant bugs for an episode of HGTV’s popular show “That’s Clever.” His work can be found in galleries, gift and antique shops throughout the state. His large sculptures can be placed indoors or outdoors, and make wonderful statements in backyards or gardens. They can be clear-coated or oiled to preserve their present state, or left to age and patina.
