Artist: Kat Murphy

Using pigmented beeswax at melting temperatures, the encaustic work of Kat Murphy pairs an ancient medium with a contemporary edge. “Kat’s synthesized abstract reflections on nature and landscape have a way of drawing her audience to extraordinary places. On canvases large and small, Kat applies torn or shredded pieces of linen, over which she builds a thick textured surface of wax and pigment creating a gritty patchwork like tapestry. Similarly, this method of building the surface is carried over to her more literal depictions of nature”. Kat’s use of audacious color and line have the ability to dispel the cold and dark of a winter landscape by awakening the viewers senses.
Kat has an unwavering commitment to excellence in her work as an artist, mentor and person. In graphics, art and illustration Kat strives to create work that reflects an accomplished sense of design and craftsmanship. She also loves to take risks and explore non-traditional materials in her artwork.. Kat is always looking to add layers to her work with new technology, silk screening and conceptual imagery. Kat is also known to craft silk screened items, paper goods, soft goods, sewn goods, just plain good goods which are available at online boutiques and onland galleries.
