My paintings emerge from the act of putting paint to canvas.  It’s as simple as that.  Learning the basic principles and processes of traditional drawing and painting provided a foundation for experimentation.

The subjects I paint vary, but I am attracted to bare trees.  I like the structure, strength and texture of them.  Sometimes I work by sketching elements and finding the most pleasing composition while making notes about color and light.  I work in my studio relying on memory and intuition to complete the painting.  At other times I simply paint without having any particular direction other than color and imagination.
